Porphyry tiles
We obtain the characteristic porphyry tiles by cutting the natural porphyry slabs extracted in the quarry into rectangular shapes. Characterized by different sizes and thicknesses, this product has a natural visible upper face with edges that can be split or sawn using diamond discs.
The tiles are cut one by one by the operator who subsequently stacks them, depending on the size on pallets of 15 square meters. However, we can provide our customers with custom-sized pallets as needed.
Based on personal taste, it is possible to create a particular flooring using porphyry tiles of a single size, or by arranging alternate rows. Furthermore, thanks to our quarries, we offer tiles characterized by the different colors typical of Trentino porphyry.

Use and installation of porphyry tiles
Porphyry tiles generally have pre-established widths characterized by steps of 5 cm, or 10-15-20-25-30-35-40 cm. The lengths, on the other hand, are variable, but it is possible to request fixed-size tiles as needed.
Depending on the type of flooring to be built, whether pedestrian, cladding or driveway, we offer porphyry tiles of different thickness.
Pedestrian or cladding: thin tiles with a thickness of 1 / 3.5 cm
Drive-over: tiles with a thickness equal to or greater than 2/6 cm
The installation on the floor takes place on a concrete screed bound by electro-welded mesh.
To lay 1 / 3.5 cm thin tiles, approximately 8 cm of thickness between the material and the bedding mortar is required. For the 2/6 cm tiles, about 10 cm thick are recommended; if space permits it is possible to use the 2/6 cm thickness also in pedestrian pavements.
During installation, each porphyry tile is “dirty” in the lower part with cement grout. This will serve as an adhesion between porphyry and bedding mortar.
Once the porphyry has been laid, proceed with the grouting of the joints with cement grout.

Maintenance
Maintaining a porphyry tile flooring is simple. It is sufficient to carry out a good cleaning with water from time to time, even with a hydro-cleaner. We do not recommend the use of detergents or acids that could ruin the cement seal.
