Porphyry binders
The main feature of porphyry binders is the unmistakable parallelepiped shape that differentiates them from cubes. The binders, obtained from the mechanical shearing of natural quarry porphyry slabs, are generally used to create the containment edges of the flooring to obtain an elegant geometric effect.
C.A.P.A. Porfido supplies binders in bulk, on pallets or in big bags or wooden crates of about 15 quintals; in case of special needs we can supply the material in customized quantity or weight.
Use of binders
The binders are the type of product most used to create the frame containment of porphyry flooring. They can also be used as actual flooring or as a delimitation between neighboring areas or properties.

Laying of the binders
The laying of porphyry binders to create a containment of the flooring is carried out “running”, that is, creating a straight row of binders chosen from pieces characterized by fixed width and different length. The material is always laid on a concrete screed bound by electro-welded mesh. The binders are then laid in cement mortar with the underlying face coated with grout, in order to increase the gripping effect.
We also recommend creating a mortar reinforcement on the outside.
However, porphyry binders can be used as real flooring; this is done by placing the material in parallel rows on a bed of grit. Finally, the sealing with small stone and resin makes the flooring elastic, draining and extremely long-lasting.
Maintenance
As recommended for any porphyry flooring, it is sufficient to keep the surface clean by using water, or a hydro-cleaner for a deeper cleansing. We do not recommend the use of detergents or acids that would ruin the sealing between one cube and another.
