Pebbles

The porphyry pebbles are created by the force of nature, they are in fact the result of the erosion of flowing water. Today this type of material is particularly used for the construction of squares, streets and private squares.

We generally supply the pebbles in bulk or in big bags or wooden crates of about 15 quintals; it is however possible to purchase the material in customized quantities according to particular needs and the sizes to be paved.

Designs and colors for the flooring

Using pebbles of different shades, the master installers can create floors characterized by valuable designs by exploiting the easy adaptability of the shapes of the pebbles. It is in fact possible to create geometric or irregular designs such as writings, family crests, elements of nature and wind roses, combining porphyry pebbles with other stones such as marble and granite.

Based on the project we are able to supply the customer with pebbles of particular dimensions, but also supplies characterized by the dominance of a specific color. In any case, the peculiarities of the Trentino porphyry will make each floor unique and unrepeatable.

Use and installation of pebbles

We have different types of cobblestones for each type of flooring, both for pedestrian and driveway paving.

  • Pedestrian: use of cubes with a thickness of 4/6 cm
  • Drive-over: use of cubes with a thickness equal to or greater than 6/8 cm

Porphyry pebbles can be laid on a concrete screed bound by electro-welded mesh or on a well-settled natural substrate.

To lay the 4/6 cm pebbles in porphyry, about 10-12 cm of thickness is needed between the porphyry and the bedding material, such as sand and cement. For 6/8 cm pebbles, about 12-14 cm thick are recommended.

Porphyry pebbles are generally laid on a bed of sand and cement and sealed with cement grout. In recent years, however, laying on a bed of grit with sealing with small stone and resin has become increasingly common. The latter, technically, is the solution that gives greater performance as it makes the flooring elastic and draining, avoiding any cracks and breakages in the concrete, as well as problems related to water drainage. This particular installation makes the flooring extremely durable over time.

Maintenance and cleaning

To maintain the porphyry flooring, a good cleaning with water is sufficient, which could ruin the seal between the pebbles.
